© Timothy Easton Shrubby perennial with silver-gray foliage and fragrant lavender flowers during midsummer, it is easily started from seed; it has very fragrant aroma from leaves and flowers. Lavender is cultivated throughout Europe and the United States. It takes over 500 pounds of lavender flowers to make 1 pound
of essential oil. Lavender is harvested during the heat of the day and then the fresh flower tips are put through a steam distillation process to extract the pure essential oil. Lavender aroma is calming, refreshing, uplifting, expansive, soothing, purifying.
I have always loved lavender & always grown it. I make lavender wands, use the dried flowers in sachets, it's also lovely in a pretty bowl and scents a whole room. Lavender tea is fragrant and wonderful as well as soothing and healing.
To make it :
pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of fresh flowers. Cover & let steep for 10 minutes.
